This skills programme provides young people, who are without previous work experience, with the basic skills to work in a retail environment. 

It comprises of five weeks of practical training and two weeks of theory, and successful participants receive a NQF level 3 qualification upon completion.


WHO CAN APPLY?

South African youth between 18 and 34 years with no previous work experience. 

REQUIREMENTS

A South African Matric or an equivalent qualification.


With the opening of a new Checkers supermarket in Van Riebeeck Park in Gauteng’s Kempton Park, 32 previously unemployed youth from the local community are now gaining valuable retail experience. 

The learners are enrolled in the retailer’s Retail Readiness and Youth Employment Services (YES) programmes that will see them receive practical on-the-job training such as shelf packing and store preparation, as well as exposure to various other parts of the retail environment, with guidance and supervision from more experienced employees.

The new Checkers Van Riebeeck Park supermarket offers customers a convenient shopping experience with several in-store departments, including a Meat Market, Hot & Cold Foods Deli, Bakery, and Fresh Fruit and Vegetables section.  

Trading hours are Mondays to Sundays from 08:00 – 20:00.
